Note: This plant was added to the garden when it was first the Southwestern Edible Garden. It is not a plant mentioned on the Tribal list but is a wild edible that could have been utilized by the Native people.
Native Name: Unknown.
Height/Physical Description: 3 to 5 feet in height and 5 to 8 feet in width. Gray-green leaves with whorls of purple flowers that are cylindrical and bloom in May or early Summer. The entire plant is deliciously fragrant.
Use: Food. Leaves make a refreshing tea. The seeds are like chia and edible.
Harvesting: Summer when the flower heads have dried and the seeds can be removed.
Preparation: Dried leaves can make a refreshing tea and the seeds can be eaten like chia seeds.
