Height/Physical Description: 6 feet in height and width. Evergreen, shiny dark green leaves and yellow flowers that bloom throughout the year.
Use: Medicine. The leaves were used to make tea that treated a variety of ailments such as colds, chest infections, bowel complaints and stomach cramps. Considered a good decongestant for the lungs. It was their natural version of penicillin or treatment for cancer. Also used for everyday use as a general health tonic that could be sweetened and enjoyed before breakfast.
Harvesting: Leaves can be harvested year- round.
Preparation: Leaves steeped in boiling water.
